The South Dakota Department of Education is seeking a qualified individual to fill an Education Specialist I position in the Office of Educator Certification as a Certification Officer.
This office provides guidance, support, technical assistance and customer service to educators, school districts, and university certification officers regarding certification requirements and process of applying for certification.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter, highly motivated, enjoys multitasking and is dedicated to helping others.
Your day will be filled with multiple variations of technical assistance to ensure timely processing of certification applications and accurate guidance of certification statutes, rules, and policies.
Your growth mindset will be put into action as you use your technology skills to train alongside of the team on the new certification system.

This position is located in Pierre, SD, and has very limited in-state travel; it is a full-time, 40-hours weekly position.
Licenses and CertificationsEducator certification is preferred.
The Ideal Candidate Will HaveCompleted a educator preparation program and has experience in a K-12 school system.
Knowledge of SD K-12 certification statutes, rules, and policies; SD Educator Preparation Programs; current issues related to K-12 education; and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Teams, Lists).
Skill to multitask; demonstrate strong organization and orientation to detail; provide outstanding written and verbal communication; treat customers courteously and respond to their needs; utilize available resources effectively and efficiently; understand and use technology effectively and efficiently; work in collaboration with teams across the organization to implement organizational policies and procedures, including certification-related technical assistance, training, tools, and support for educators; and providing high-quality professional development about the certification process.
Ability to assure educator compliance with established laws, rules, policies, and procedures impacting certification; use investigative skills, think strategically, and solve problems creatively; communicate effectively with multiple diverse audiences; work productively as part of a team, as well as independently; efficiently manage multiple priorities and projects; recognize sensitive information and maintain confidentiality; listen attentively and provide courteous, consistent, efficient service; following training, effectively utilize the certification system; and work to build and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders.
